Full Spectrum
On 12th December Catch Music launched its first CD - "Full Spectrum" - a snapshot of the Perth community music scene, and the culmination of a year-long CD project involving over 100 people.
Perth has a widely celebrated music scene, with hundreds of bands, orchestras, music schools, recording artists, and festivals. But one aspect of this scene is rarely given due credit – the people and organisations who bring amateur musicians together to make music in the community.
Full Spectrum is a celebration of the energy and diversity of these community groups, with eleven bands coming together from different community organisations across Perth to work towards the same goal.

About the Album
The community music groups featured on the CD play their own interpretation of songs by a range of artists, such as Coldplay, Missy Higgins, Pink Floyd, and Sly and the Family Stone.
The songs were chosen through a "call out" that was sent around to schools and organisations across Perth. Hundreds of people responded to our invitation to nominate "a song that has changed your life", and the eleven songs on the CD were chosen from those nominations.
One of the songs, Under the Milky Way by The Church, was chosen and sung by Emma Vardy, a seventeen-year-old who has a visual impairment: “I like it how the song talks about the emptiness, until the stars come out and sends the emptiness away. I listen to this song a lot, and always get taken in by the story.”
The bands chosen to appear on the CD were selected on the basis of their commitment to being part of the project, and to its goal of celebrating the diversity and inclusiveness of the Perth community music scene.
David Hurst, a guitarist from The Leeders of Jamville, a band which features on Full Spectrum, is one of many people who have benefited from community music in Perth: “After years of depression, being involved in Catch Music and working on this CD has helped get me out of my head and feel confident again about meeting others in the community.”
